Baseball team falls to Trine 4-2 and 6-3
The Olivet College baseball team fell in both ends of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader to Trine (Ind.) University today at Jannen Field in Angola, Indiana. The Thunder won by scores of 6-2 and 4-3.

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College baseball team fell in both ends of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader to Trine (Ind.) University today at Jannen Field in Angola, Indiana. The Thunder won by scores of 6-2 and 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- The Thunder used a two-run home run in the second inning to open the game's scoring.
- The Comets tied the game with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Sophomore Aaron Gillespie hit a one-out single before coming around to score of freshman Junior Gomez's double down left field line. After another out, sophomore Riley Bennett lined a RBI-single to score Gomez.
- Trine scored what proved to be the winning run in the home half of the fourth. The Thunder added two unearned runs in the fifth inning and a run in the sixth inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet had nine hits.
- Bennett was 3-for-3 with three singles.
- Freshman Ben Compton contributed two hits.
- Gillespie was charged with the pitching loss after yielding five runs (three earned) on seven hits over five innings.
FOR THE THUNDER
- Kevin O'Malley had three of the 10 Trine hits.
- Nick Ricci and A.J. Willis each drove in two runs.
- Ben Wheaton earned the pitching win after allowing two runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- The Comets took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after freshman Logan Sella led off with a triple and scored on junior Jake Robinson's single.
- Olivet manufactured another run in the fifth inning. Sella walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on junior Dugan Dieselberg's single up the middle.
- The Thunder answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fifth to even the score.
- Trine took a 3-2 lead with a single tally in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh.
- The Comets scored one run and left two runners stranded in the ninth inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- Bennett finished the game with three hits in four at-bats. One of the hits was a double.
- Sella recorded three hits and two runs.
- Compton had two hits.
- Robinson collected two RBI.
- Freshman Ryan Rivard suffered the pitching loss. He gave up the first three runs on four hits over six innings.
- Sophomore Huston Snyder and senior Joseph Crosby each threw an inning of relief.
FOR THE THUNDER
- Colton Conn had three of the five Trine hits from the leadoff spot in the lineup.
- Adam Wheaton picked-up the pitching win, and Caleb Deiter earned the save.
UP NEXT
- Tomorrow's scheduled doubleheader between Olivet and Trine (Ind.) University has been postponed. The teams are hoping to finish the four-game series Tuesday, April 17, with two games at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet, starting at 2 p.m.
