Baseball team drops 6-2 game to Central at RussMatt Invitational
The Olivet College baseball team lost 6-2 to Central (Iowa) College in a non-conference contest this afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational and at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team lost 6-2 to Central (Iowa) College in a non-conference contest this afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational and at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Dutch took advantage of four walks and a hit batter to plate four runs in the second inning. Central added to its lead with a single tally in the third inning.
- The Comets scored their first run in the last half of the third inning. Sophomore Aaron Gillespie was hit by a pitch and hustled around the bases to score on a triple by freshman Junior Gomez.
- The Dutch used their own RBI-triple triple to push across a run in the seventh inning.
- Olivet capped the scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning. Gillespie singled, went to second on Gomez's single, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Dugan Dieselberg.
FOR THE COMETS
- Gomez had two of the seven Olivet hits.
- Gillespie scored both runs.
- Freshman Alex Curry started on the mound and lasted only an inning and one-third. He gave up four runs on one hit, with five walks and one strikeout.
- Freshman Ryan Rivard threw five and two-thirds innings of relief, and allowed two runs on five hits.
- Senior Joseph Crosby tossed the final two innings and yielded just one hit and struck out three.
FOR THE DUTCH
- Kyle Crampton recorded two of the seven Central hits, and drove in three runs.
- Tanner Wood scored two runs.
- Tre Stanton picked-up the pitching win after allowing one run on four hits over six innings.
- Two relievers combined to give up one run on three hits.

- Olivet takes tomorrow off and will return to the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex Thursday morning at 9 a.m. against Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham (N.J.).
