Baseball team comes up short against Springfield, 5-2

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team came up short against Springfield (Mass.) College, 5-2, this morning at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride took advantage of a Comet error to plate an unearned run in the top of first inning.
- Springfield pushed across two runs in the fourth inning to increase its lead to 3-0.
- In the fifth inning, the Pride used three walks and a sacrifice fly to add another run to their run total.
- Olivet had three straight singles to load the bases in the sixth inning. Sophomore Travis Petts roped a single down the left-field line to plate two runs. Junior Kevin Hatcher walked to re-load the bases but a fly out ended the scoring threat.
- The Pride got one run back in the eighth inning to cap the scoring.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet recorded seven hits in the loss.
- Freshman Aaron Gillespie was 2-for-4.
- Junior Aiden Holliday and freshman Alex Parthum each scored a run.
- Junior Zach Oshinsky suffered the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over four and one-third innings.
- Freshman Brett Tyndall allowed an earned run on three hits in two and two-thirds innings.
- Junior Austin Hickey pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
FOR THE PRIDE
- Springfield recorded 11 total hits.
- Colin King, Brandon Drabinski and Alex Denoyelle each had two hits.
- Denoyelle also registered two RBI.
- Kyle Naples earned the pitching win after throwing five and two-thirds innings. He gave up two earned runs on six hits, while striking out five.
- Ken Manero completed the game in relief to pick-up the save. He allowed just one hit and struck out four batters.
