Baseball team drops 7-1 decision to Rochester
The Olivet College baseball team dropped a 7-1 decision to Rochester College in a nine-inning, non-conference tilt this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team dropped a 7-1 decision to Rochester College in a nine-inning, non-conference tilt this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Warriors jumped out to a 7-0 lead after pushing across single runs in the first, second and fourth innings, and two runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The Comets scored their lone run in the home half of the seventh inning. Junior Austin Cleaver led off the inning with a single. He went to second when senior Stephen Botti was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Connor Murney reached on a fielder's choice to move Cleaver to third. Senior Zach Kitzmiller lined a single down the left field line to score Murney.
Olivet recorded five hits in the loss, with five different players – Cleaver, Kitzmiller, freshmen Travis Petts and Gage Roberts, and sophomore Luke Spotts – each having one. Sophomore Michael O'Brien suffered the pitching loss. He started on the mound and threw three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits. Four relievers combined to give up five runs on eight hits.
The Comets returns to the field this weekend for a four-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series against Kalamazoo College. The first two games will be played in Olivet on Saturday, and then the series moves to Kalamazoo on Sunday for the final two games. Both doubleheaders have a 1 p.m. start time.
