Baseball team swept by Adrian, 9-3 and 8-0
The Olivet College baseball team opened its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule and was swept by Adrian College this afternoon at Nicolay Field in Adrian. The Bulldogs won the games by scores of 9-3 and 8-0.

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team opened its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule and was swept by Adrian College this afternoon at Nicolay Field in Adrian. The Bulldogs won the games by scores of 9-3 and 8-0.
Neither team was able to push across any runs in the first two innings. Adrian dented the scoreboard for the first time on a two-run single by Collin Parcher in the third inning. The Comets got one run back in their half of the fourth inning. Freshman Travis Petts lined a two-out single into right field. Junior Andrew Dayfield followed with a single in the right-center gap. On the play, the right fielder misplayed the ball, allowing Petts to come around and score.
Adrian extended its lead to 7-1 with a three runs in the home half of the fourth and two more runs in the fifth. Olivet plated two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI-single by Dayfield. The second run scored on the same play on a fielding error by the first baseman. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom part of the inning with a two-run home run by Jeff Gertley. The Comets had two base runners in the seventh inning but failed to score any runs.
Dayfield finished the game with three hits in three plate appearances. Sophomore Connor Murney was 2-for-4. Five others each had one hit. Senior Colin Boak started on the mound and gave up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits in four and two-thirds innings. Senior Tom Miller finished the game in relief and allowed the final two runs on three hits.
In the nightcap, Tommy Parsons stymied the Comet bats, recording a no-hitter and allowing only two base runners. Senior Jimmy Schoof walked in the first inning and senior Stephen Botti reached on a throwing error in the seventh inning. Sophomore Joey Crosby threw the first five innings and yielded five runs on five hits. Sophomore Michael O'Brien pitched an inning of relief, giving up three runs on three hits. Senior Nick Taylor two hitless innings of relief.
The teams are scheduled to complete the four-game series tomorrow with two games at Olivet's Cutler Athletic Complex, starting at 1 p.m.
