Baseball: Thompson named to All-MIAA second-team
Olivet College senior outfielder Drew Thompson (Canton/Salem) has been named to the 20145 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) baseball second-team.
FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior outfielder Drew Thompson has been named to the 20145 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) baseball second-team. All-MIAA honors are based on a player's performance during the 28-game league schedule.
Thompson started all 28 games for the Comets in right field and batted in the third spot of the lineup 26 times. At the plate, he had a team-leading .382 batting average as well as 16 runs scored, six doubles, 14 RBI, 40 total bases, .449 slugging percentage and .433 on-base percentage. Thompson had at least one hit in 24 games, ending the year on an 11-game hit streak.
For Olivet's entire 40-game schedule, Thompson was the only Olivet player to start every game, with 39 starts in right and the last one in left field. He led the team in almost every offensive statistical category, including batting average (.321), runs (23), hits (42), doubles (10), RBI (21), total bases (.52) and slugging percentage (.397). In the outfield, Thompson had only five errors in 84 chances for a .940 fielding percentage.
