Baseball: Comets split twinbill with Albion
The Olivet College baseball team split a doubleheader against Albion College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. In the opener, junior Colin Boak went the distance in a 6-0 shutout win. The Britons gained the split with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team split a doubleheader against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. In the opener, junior Colin Boak went the distance in a 6-0 shutout win. The Britons gained the split with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.
In game one, the Comets scored the only run they would in the first inning on a fielding error by the Albion third baseman. Olivet added to its lead with three unearned runs in the second inning on a two-run single by senior Beau Langs and an RBI-single by senior Jonny Zawacki.
The Comets capped their scoring with single tallies in both the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, junior Stephen Botti hit an RBI-single, and in the sixth, freshman Colton Dawdy scored on a wild pitch.
For the game, Olivet recorded 10 hits. Langs led the way with three hits and two RBI. Senior Drew Thompson had two hits. Botti drove in a pair of runs. On the mound, Boak scattered nine hits in the complete game performance. He struck out three and walked three, leaving 11 runners stranded on the bases.
In game two, the Comets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Andrew Dayfield to score Dawdy. The Britons got that run back in the fourth inning and then took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning. Olivet scored once in the home half of the fifth. Dayfield singled and went to second base on a wild pitch before scoring on Thompson's base hit to left field.
At the plate, both teams collected seven hits. Zawacki was 2-for-3. Dayfield officially went 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Freshman Aiden Holliday was tagged with the pitching loss after giving up four runs on four hits in four and one-third innings.
Albion and Olivet will complete the four-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow at Frank Joranko Field in Albion, starting at 1 p.m.
