Baseball: Olivet falls to Wooster, 8-4, and Keystone, 9-2

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader today in its seventh day of competition at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. In their first game, the Comets fell to College of Wooster, 8-4, and then they lost by a 9-2 score to Keystone (Pa.) College in their second game.
Wooster jumped out to a 7-0 lead when it scored six runs in the second inning off junior Collin McCririe and one run in the third inning off freshman Sam Knoechel. Wooster closed its scoring with another run in the sixth inning off freshman Joseph Crosby.
The Comets got three runs back in the bottom half of the sixth. After freshman Luke Spotts and senior Beau Langs reached on back-to-back singles, senior Drew Thompson doubled to plate Spotts and move Langs to third. Sophomore Zach Kitzmiller grounded out to bring home Langs. Senior Peter Panos followed with an RBI-single to score Thompson.
Olivet scored its final run in the seventh. Junior Ryan Hendricks led off the inning with a double, went to third on a ground out and crossed the dish on senior Tom Kort's single.
At the plate, the Comets were held to only eight hits, including two apiece for Langs and Panos. McCririe was tagged with the pitching loss after allowing the six runs on seven hits in two innings.
No other information from the game vs. Keystone is available at this time.
Olivet wraps-up its spring break trip tomorrow morning with a 9 a.m. game against Johns Hopkins (Md.) University.
