The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by John Carroll (Ohio) University, 9-1, this morning in its third day of competition at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by John Carroll (Ohio) University, 9-1, this morning in its third day of competition at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Blue Streaks scored three runs in the first inning and two more runs in third inning for a 5-0 lead. The Comets dented the scoreboard with their only run in the top half of the fourth. Senior Drew Thompson hit a double to right-center field and came around to cross the plate on freshman Colton Dawdy's single down the left field line.
John Carroll answered with four runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Olivet's only other dangerous scoring chance came in the ninth inning when it had bases loaded and only one out. The Blue Streaks got out of the jam by turning a double play.
At the plate, Olivet had six hits. Thompson went 2-for-4, while four others had one hit apiece. Junior Jared Scheese suffered the pitching loss, allowing all nine runs, seven earned, on eight hits in four innings. He struck out five and walked four batters. Freshman Aiden Holliday threw three innings of one-hit ball in relief.
The Comets are back on the field tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. against Thiel (Pa.) College.
