Baseball team falls to Adrian, 9-2 and 4-1
The Olivet College baseball team lost two games to defending MIAA champion Adrian College, 9-2 and 4-1, today at Nicolay Field in Adrian.

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team lost two games to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Adrian College, 9-2 and 4-1, today at Nicolay Field in Adrian.
In game one, the Comets scored a run in the top half of the first inning. Junior Beau Langs (Climax/Climax-Scotts) led off the game with a single through the left-side of the infield, went to third on junior Drew Thompson's (Canton/Salem) double and scored on an RBI-groundout by junior Joey Myers (Holt).
Adrian took the lead with three runs in the second inning and one more run in the fourth inning. Olivet got one run back in the fifth inning. Senior Joel Peters (Troy/Avondale) reached on an infield hit and took second on an errant thrown. Two straight groundouts, including the second by junior Tom Kort (South Lyon/New Hudson) allowed Peters to cross the plate with the run.
The Bulldogs pushed across two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth inning for the final margin of victory.
At the plate, the Comets finished with seven total hits. Langs and senior Dylan Betcher (Lansing/Everett) each had two hits. Junior Jimmy Schoof (Merrill) was the losing pitcher, and he allowed six runs on four hits in four and two-thirds innings.
Like the opener, Olivet plated a run in the first inning of game two. Senior Jonny Zawacki (Alpena) had a one-out single down the left field line, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on Myers' single up the middle. Adrian scored three runs on one hit in the home half of the second inning on one run on two hits in the fourth.
Offensively, the Comets collected six total hits. Myers and junior Peter Panos (Davison) had two hits apiece. On the mound, sophomore David Hernandez (Lansing/Eastern) gave up four runs, one earned, on four hits in five and one-third innings. Zawacki recorded the final two outs.
Olivet is back in action tomorrow when it plays a doubleheader against Alma College, starting at 3 p.m. The games will be played at Nicolay Field due to the fields in Alma and Olivet being unplayable.
