Baseball team swept by Adrian, 5-2 and 2-1
The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Adrian College in its MIAA-opening doubleheader today at Nicolay Field in Adrian. The Bulldogs won the first game, 5-2, and then scored a run in the top of seventh inning to win the nightcap, 2-1.

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Adrian College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opening doubleheader today at Nicolay Field in Adrian. The Bulldogs won the first game, 5-2, and then scored a run in the top of seventh inning to win the nightcap, 2-1.
In the opener, Adrian scored a run in the first inning and three more runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Olivet cut its deficit in half in the fourth inning when junior catcher Peter Panos (Davison) ripped a two-run single to score junior Drew Thompson (Canton/Salem) and sophomore Stephen Botti (Decatur). The Bulldogs plated their final run in the fifth inning.
Offensively, the Comets were held to six total hits. Panos went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Olivet's lone extra base hit was a double by senior Dylan Betcher (Lansing/Everett). Senior Jake Ball (Cadillac) started on the mound, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits in five innings. Junior Collin McCririe (Brighton) tossed two hitless innings of relief.
In the second game, Olivet jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning. Thompson had an RBI-single to score Betcher with the run. The Bulldogs tied the game in the third and scored the winning run in the seventh by manufacturing runs in both innings.
The Comets had only two hits in the loss, both in the first inning. Sophomore lefty Colin Boak (Fowlerville) was the hard luck loser. He surrendered the two runs on eight hits, while striking out six in seven innings.
The teams return to Nicolay Field tomorrow to complete the four-game series, with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
