FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team defeated Bluffton (Ohio) University, 3-2, this morning at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Comets scored their three runs in the first inning. Junior Drew Thompson (Canton/Salem) was hit by a pitch to score the first run. Junior Joey Myers (Holt) then reached on fielder's choice to score the second run. Senior Jonny Zawacki (Alpena) scored the last run on a wild pitch. The Beavers plated their two runs in the seventh inning.
At the plate, junior Tom Kort (New Hudson/South Lyon) was 2-for-4 with one run. Junior Beau Langs (Climax/Climax-Scotts) had a hit and run scored. On the mound, sophomore Colin Boak (Fowlerville) went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits to earn the win. He struck out five batters. Junior Jimmy Schoof (Merrill) picked-up the save, throwing one and one-third innings of scoreless relief.
Olivet (1-1) continues play in Florida tomorrow with a noon game against Heidelberg (Ohio) University.
