Baseball team splits MIAA twinbill at Trine
The Olivet College baseball split a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) twinbill today at Trine (Ind.) University. Backed by a complete game pitching performance from junior Jake Ball, the Comets won the first game, 6-2. The Thunder gained the split with a 5-0 shutout win game two.

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College baseball split a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) twinbill today at Trine (Ind.) University. Backed by a complete game pitching performance from junior Jake Ball, the Comets won the first game, 6-2. The Thunder gained the split with a 5-0 shutout win game two.
In the opener, Olivet took a 4-0 lead with three runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth. Trine trimmed its deficit in half with a pair of runs in its half of the sixth inning. The Comets plated two insurance runs in the seventh inning.
For the game, Olivet out-hit Trine, 11-9. Senior Andrew Brawley, junior Joel Peters and sophomores Joey Myers, Pete Panos and Drew Thompson each had two hits. Thompson drove in a pair of runs, while Brawley and Myers scored two runs apiece. On the mound, Ball threw 88 pitches, 55 for strikes, to improve to 5-2 on the season. He struck out five and walked two.
In the second game, the Thunder scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Trine added single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Comets were limited to three hits, including two for senior Randy Young. Sophomore Beau Langs had the third hit. Senior Jay Magro threw six innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits.
Olivet now turns its attention to a four-game MIAA series against defending league champion Adrian College. The first two games will be played tomorrow at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet, and then series moves to Adrian's Nicolay Field Sunday afternoon for two games. Action both days start at 1 p.m.
