Baseball team loses to Kenyon, 15-11
The Olivet College baseball team snapped its three-game winning streak with a 15-11 loss to Kenyon (Ohio) College today at the Gene Cusic Classic and at the Player Development Complex in downtown Fort Myers, Fla.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team snapped its three-game winning streak with a 15-11 loss to Kenyon (Ohio) College today at the Gene Cusic Classic and at the Player Development Complex in downtown Fort Myers, Fla.
The Comets scored one run in the first and second innings, and three runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Lords responded with a single run in fourth inning and then sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs in the fifth to take an 8-5 lead. Olivet made the score 8-7 with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the sixth.
Kenyon answered with three runs in the top half of the seventh for an 11-7 lead. The Lords added another run in the eighth. The Comets fought back and plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning to trail 12-10. Kenyon got those runs back in the ninth inning. Olivet scored once and had the tying run in the on-deck circle in the ninth.
Four Comets, senior Andrew Brawley (Niles), sophomore Conner Magro (Bridgman), senior Randy Young (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) and junior Jonny Zawacki (Alpena), each recorded two hits. Brawley and Zawacki drove in three and two runs, respectively. From the leadoff spot in the lineup, sophomore Beau Langs (Climax/Climax-Scotts) scored four runs. Freshman Colin Boak (Fowlerville) was the losing pitcher in his Olivet debut on the mound, allowed eight earned runs on eight hits in four and two-thirds innings.
After taking tomorrow off, the Comets will play Bethel (Minn.) University Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
