OLIVET, Mich. – On Saturday, August 25, Olivet College opened the gates to its first ever music festival. All students and the community were invited to attend the event. The music was a wide variety to be able to entertain all who attended the event.
The artists who performed were all from Michigan. The list included Michigander, Mikeyy Austin, Hope Waidley, JD Wright, Munch, Tiger and Frame, Soul Brothers Stef, Modern Adventures. The artist took turns performing throughout the entire day, starting at 1:30 p.m. and the festival lasted until 11:30 p.m.
The man who put the entire event together was senior Zach Oshinsky. After talking to Oshinsky he said “I thought hosting a music festival on campus would be a great way to bring students together, and especially make an impact on new freshmen. I really enjoy attending music festivals and just thought to myself, ‘I could make this happen at Olivet College.’ I think this event will be a great addition to Welcome Week.”
Oshinsky put in hours of time with dedication to make the festival the best he possibly could. The festival ran smoothly with no problems everything was set in place and ready for anything.
All of the proceeds of the event benefited the Olivet College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and using those processes to help events like their work with Special Olympics.
Athletic Director Ryan Shockey said in an interview with WILX TV 10 that it is a great experience for the young athletes that can not afford to go to the camps, Olivet is able to help them be involved with sports with the proceeds that are made and the dedication of the students.
The 2018 Olivet College Music Festival was a success down to every detail being planned out thoroughly to ensure a great festival. SAAC President Michaela Kaliniak said it was a great event to support the college and they are hoping to continue the music festival and make this a tradition for the start of the school year to bring all the students together.
