Eight Olivet College teams receive MIAA Team GPA award
Eight Olivet College teams have earned the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Team GPA award for the 2014-15 academic year.
Women's golf team posts second-highest GPA among 77 MIAA teams
FREELAND, Mich. -- Eight Olivet College teams have earned the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team GPA award for the 2014-15 academic year. This award is presented to conference teams who achieve a 3.300 or better grade point average for the entire academic year. In its 16th year of existence, the eight teams honored are the second-most in school history for an academic year.
Seven of the Comets’ 10 women’s athletic programs earned recognition. The women’s golf team led the way with a 3.656 GPA, which was second-highest among the 77 league teams honored. Next was the women’s swimming & diving team with a 3.655 GPA, which was the third-highest among MIAA teams.
The women’s tennis team had a 3.592 GPA, while the softball team recorded a 3.530 GPA. The women's lacrosse team was next with a 3.522 GPA, followed by women’s soccer team, 3.402 GPA; women’s basketball team, 3.347 GPA; and men’s cross country team, 3.340 GPA.
The women’s golf team is earning the honor for a eighth straight year and 11th time in school history. The women’s tennis team has earned the honor six of the last seven years. The GPAs for four teams -- women’s golf, women's swimming & diving, softball and women’s lacrosse -- are the highest in thier repsective program's history.
