Reid and Weaver receive Olivet College Scholastic-Achievement awards
Olivet College women’s basketball player Carli Reid was presented the Linda Hoover Scholastic Achievement Award and cross country/track runner Jalen Weaver received the Walter B. Sprandel Scholastic Achievement Award at the college’s annual Honors Convocation ceremony.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College women’s basketball player Carli Reid was presented the Linda Hoover Scholastic Achievement Award and cross country/track runner Jalen Weaver received the Walter B. Sprandel Scholastic Achievement Award at the college’s annual Honors Convocation ceremony. These awards are given each year to the top female and male graduating senior for her/his contributions to the college in athletic performance and high academic achievement.
Reid carries a 3.8548 grade point average (GPA) in criminal justice. On the basketball court, she was a 2015 second-team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) selection. Reid ranked second on the team in scoring (11.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg). She finished her brief two-year career in a Comet uniform with 587 points and 331 rebounds. Reid’s career .519 field goal percentage ranks second all-time in Olivet history.
Weaver has a 3.8272 GPA in exercise science. On the track, he earned NCAA All-American honors after finishing in sixth-place in the 800-meter run at the 2015 Division III National Indoor Track & Field Championships. Weaver is also an All-Conference performer after winning the 800-meter run at 2014 MIAA Field Day. He is the school-record holder in the 800 for both indoors (1:53.15) and outdoors (1:53.13).
By virtue of earning these honors, Reid and Weaver are now Olivet’s nominees for the MIAA’s Sheila Kovalchik and Albert Deal Scholar-Athlete awards.
