OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men’s and women’s cross country teams have earned national recognition for their work in the class room during the 2014 fall semester. Both teams have received the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Team award after recording an outstanding cumulative grade point average (GPA).
A total of 211 women’s programs and 152 men’s NCAA Division III programs earned the All-Academic Team honors. Teams qualify for this award after compiling a cumulative GPA of at least 3.10 while competing in at least five races with at least five runners representing their school at each during the fall season. The Comet men posted a 3.62 team GPA, while the women’s team had a 3.42 GPA.
“We want our student-athletes to excel in the class room and in races,” said Olivet Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach Karen Lutzke. “I am very happy with the way our student-athletes performed in these two areas during the fall. I also hope they can continue to build on their success in them.”
