School-record 10 Olivet College teams receive MIAA Team GPA award
A school-record 10 Olivet College teams have received the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team GPA award for the 2013-14 academic year.
OLIVET, Mich. -- A school-record 10 Olivet College teams have received the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team GPA award for the 2013-14 academic year. This award is presented to conference teams who achieve a 3.300 or better grade point average for the entire academic year. In its 16th year of existence, the previous high for number of teams honored in an academic year was seven in 2001-02.
Nine of the Comets’ 10 women’s athletic programs earned recognition. The MIAA champion women’s golf team led the way with a 3.584 GPA, which was seventh-highest among the 65 league teams honored. Next was the women’s swimming & diving team with a 3.540 GPA.
The women’s soccer team had a 3.532 GPA, while the women’s lacrosse team recorded a 3.502 GPA. The softball team was next with a 3.442 GPA, followed by women’s track & field team, 3.424 GPA; women’s tennis team, 3.420 GPA; women’s basketball, 3.407 GPA; women’s cross country, 3.407 GPA; and men’s swimming & diving team, 3.371 GPA.
The women’s golf team is earning the honor for a seventh straight year and 10th time in school history. The women’s tennis team has earned the honor five of the last six years. The GPAs for five teams -- women’s soccer, women’s golf, men’s swimming & diving, softball and women’s lacrosse -- are the highest in school history.
