Six men’s and women’s swimmers named to CSC Academic All-District® team
OLIVET, Mich. – Six members of The University of Olivet men's and women's swimming teams have been selected to the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® team. The honorees are seniors Seth Kading, Dylon Lyons and Landon Morgan from the men's team and sophomore Kelsee Lawson, senior Jennifer Mann and sophomore Bridgette Shroll from the women's team. Kading, Mann and Morgan are receiving this honor for a second consecutive season.
To be selected to the Academic All-District® team, the swimmer must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average and finished in the top eight of one event at the conference championship meet OR swam in four meets this season.
Kading, a business with marketing concentration major, swam in both the freestyle and backstroke events this season. He posted season-best times of 49.20 seconds in the 100 freestyle, 55.93 seconds in the 100 backstroke and 2:09.00 in the 200 backstroke at the 2024 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. During the 2022-23 season, Kading posted the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 100 back (53.91) and eighth-fastest time in the 200 back (1:59.43). His other career-best times are 22.22 seconds in the 50 free, 47.68 seconds in the 100 free, 1:44.86 in the 200 free, 5:06.23 in the 500 free, 12:01.49 in the 1000 free, 2:07.64 in the 200 IM and 4:46.07 in the 400 IM.
Lyons, a criminal justice major, primarily swam in the backstroke events for the Comets. His best times this season were 54.74 seconds in the 100 and 2:04.27 in the 200 at the MIAA Championships. Lyons' career-best times were 54.62 seconds in the 100 back, 2:00.93 in the 200 back, 24.62 seconds in the 50 free, 51.32 seconds in the 100 free and 1:59.21 in the 200 free.
Morgan, a history major, competed primarily in the breaststroke events this season. He swam a personal-best time of 59.42 seconds in the 100 and season-best time of 2:12.23 in the 200 at the MIAA Championships. Those performances helped him place ninth in the 200 and 10th in the 100. In addition, Morgan holds the ninth-best time in school history in both events – 59.42 seconds in the 100 and 2:11.87 in the 200. His other career-best times were 51.11 seconds in the 100 free, 1:46.04 in the 200 free, 5:23.16 in the 500 free, 54.16 seconds in the 100 fly, 2:19.23 in the 200 fly and 2:00.13 in the 200 IM.
Lawson, a financial planning major, swam in the freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly events in 2023-24. At the MIAA Championships, she recorded personal-best times of 5:48.78 in the 500 free and 19:56.30 in the 1650 free, and a season-best time of 1:06.71 in the 100 fly. Lawson's other career-best times include 1:03.67 in the 100 free, 2:17.02 in the 200 free, 1:15.91 in the 100 back, 2:44.61 in the 200 back and 1:06.54 in the 100 fly.
Mann, a biology with pre-medicine concentration major, finished her career as the most decorated women's swimmer in school history. Mann earned All-MIAA honors each of her four seasons. At the 2024 MIAA Championships, she finished second in the 400 IM and 200 breast, and sixth in the 1650 free. Mann also represented Olivet at the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships for the first time. She is the school record holder in four events – 100 breast (1:04.95), 200 breast (2:19.74), 200 IM (2:07.71) and 400 IM (4:30.11). Mann also has the second-fastest times in school history in the 200 free (1:53.68), 500 free (5:02.88), 1000 free (10:41.40) and 1650 free (17:38.36).
Shroll, a biology major, swam primarily in the breaststroke and freestyle events. At the 2024 MIAA Championships, she had season best times in each of her three individual events, while finishing eighth in the 200 breast. Shroll's personal best times include 27.05 seconds in the 50 free, 57.16 seconds in the 100 free, 1:58.95 in the 200 free, 5:20.75 in the 500 free, 11:36.72 in the 1000 free, 18:53.01 in the 1650, 1:08.53 in 100 breast, 2:28.58 in the 200 breast and 2:21.36 in the 200 IM. In school history, the 100 breast time ranks third and 200 breast time ranks fourth.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's swimming & diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late April. The Division III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division III Academic All-America® programs.
