Six men’s and women’s basketball players named to CSC Academic All-District team
OLIVET, Mich. – Six Olivet College men’s and women’s basketball players have been selected to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team and are now eligible to earn CSC Academic All-America® honors. The honorees are junior Ryan Bart, and seniors Dane Vos and Noah Wiswary from the men’s team, and sophomores Courtney Balazs and Clara Shoales, and senior Julia Decker from the women’s team.
OLIVET, Mich. – Six Olivet College men's and women's basketball players have been selected to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team and are now eligible to earn CSC Academic All-America® honors. The honorees are junior Ryan Bart, and seniors Dane Vos and Noah Wiswary from the men's team, and sophomores Courtney Balazs and Clara Shoales, and senior Julia Decker from the women's team.
To be named to the Academic All-District team, the player must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or top reserve on his/her team.
Bart, an exercise science major, has played all 25 games, with 18 starts, and is averaging 7.4 points per game (ppg). He has a 46.0 field goal percentage, including 42.2 percent from behind the arc. Bart has been named to the Dean's List multiple times. Off the court, he helped organized an elementary school field day in the fall of 2021 and participated in Relay for Life cancer walk in fall of 2022.
Vos graduated magna cum laude in May 2022 with his bachelor's degree in sports and recreation management and is presently enrolled in Olivet's Master of Business Administration program. He has played in 25 games, with four starts, and averaging 3.3 ppg. Vos has made 33-of-61 baskets (54.1 percent) and 16-of-22 free throws (72.7 percent) for his 82 points, while grabbing 96 rebounds, dishing out 27 assists, making 11 steals and blocking 12 shots. A President's and Dean's Lists honoree, Vos has served as the Vice President for Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is a President's Leadership Institute Fellow.
Wiswary is a criminal justice major and taking classes in the MBA program. He has started 24-of-25 games this season, with a 7.8 scoring average and has recorded a team-leading 103 assists. Wiswary has been on the Dean's List every semester at Olivet and is a three-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll recipient. He has been a member of SAAC for four years and is currently as serving as SAAC President.
Balazs, a chemistry and mathematics major, played in all 25 games and started 16 games. She averaged 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Off the court, Balazs is secretary for SAAC and Gruen Chemistry Society, and is a member of Sigma Zeta National Science and Mathematics honor society. She has been on the President's List every semester at Olivet and was named to the 2021-21 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Balazs has volunteered for multiple community service projects, including help clean the athletic training room and playground at Wee Ones preschool, and participated in the Relay for Life.
Shoales is majoring in chemistry and has a mathematics minor. She played in every game, with eight starts this season and averaged 3.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Shoales serves as treasurer for Gruen Chemistry Society and Mathletes, and member for Global Citizen's Honors Program. She has been on the Dean's List each of her first three semesters and was a part of the 2021-22 MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
Decker, an exercise science major, started 21-of-25 games this season. She posted 3.1 scoring and 3.4 rebounding averages to go along with recording 22 assists and 27 steals.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March. The Division III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division III Academic All-America® programs.
