Eleven Olivet College teams receive 2015-16 MIAA Team GPA award
Eleven Olivet College teams have earned the 2015-16 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team GPA award.
FREELAND, Mich. – Eleven Olivet College teams have earned the 2015-16 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team GPA award. This award is presented to conference teams who achieve a 3.300 or better grade point average for the entire academic year. In its 17th year of existence, the 11 teams honored are the most in school history for an academic year. The previous mark was 10 in 2013-14.
Ten of Olivet's 11 women's sports have earned the honor. The women's tennis team led the way with a 3.667 GPA, as eight of the nine players its roster will be named to the 2015-16 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. The GPA ranks fifth among all 95 MIAA teams recognized. The women's soccer team had a 3.622 GPA, which is eighth among all MIAA teams.
Next was women's cross country at 3.596, followed by women's golf, 3.554; women's basketball, 3.542; women's outdoor track & field, 3.542; women's indoor track & field, 3.534; women's lacrosse, 3.431; women's swimming & diving, 3.418; and softball, 3.324. The only Olivet men's team to earn the honor was cross country with a 3.378 GPA.
The women's golf team has now earned this honor for nine straight years and overall the 12th time in school history, the most by any sport at Olivet. The women's swimming & diving team has now earned the honor 11 times in school history. The women's tennis team has been on the list for seven of the last eight years. The women's soccer team's and women's basketball team's GPAs are the best in school history.
