Three individuals to enter into Olivet College Athletic Hall of Fame
Three standout individuals, Travis Lehman, Bill Telling and Louisa (Grill) Trott, will be honored with induction into the Olivet College Athletic Hall of Fame (AHOF).
OLIVET, Mich. – Three standout individuals, Travis Lehman, Bill Telling and Louisa (Grill) Trott, will be honored with induction into the Olivet College Athletic Hall of Fame (AHOF). The trio will officially enter the AHOF at a dinner Friday, Oct. 11, and then be recognized at halftime of the football game Saturday, Oct. 12.
Lehman, a 2003 Olivet graduate, was a four-year letterman on the football team from 1999-2002. As a senior in 2002, he was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s (MIAA) Most Valuable Defensive Player after receiving first-team All-MIAA honors. That year, Lehman recorded 66 total tackles, including 32 solo stops.
Lehman lives in Lowell with wife, Lisa, who is the director of admissions at Olivet. They have two sons, Brody and Bryce, with twins due in early October. Lehman graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in insurance and is currently employed as a senior field underwriter at Citizens Insurance in Grand Rapids.
Telling, a 1967 Olivet graduate, along with two others started the wrestling program at Olivet in 1964. A year later, the Comets took to the mats for their first official match, compiled a 14-3 record in three years on the mats. Telling was also a letterman on the men’s golf team. He served as a captain, was voted Most Valuable Player and earned All-MIAA honors in 1966.
Telling resides in Satellite Beach, Fla., with wife, Anne. He graduated in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in English. Telling has lived and worked in more than 10 countries. He worked in advertising, and coauthored a book called ‘Bachelor’s Guide to Sydney’. He met and married Anne before moving back to the United States to enroll in the American Graduate School of International Management, now called Thunderbird School of Global Management, in Phoenix.
Telling was then recruited by British American Tobacco Company to manage three of its brands worldwide. He was then promoted to Vice president responsible for the Middle East and Africa based in Brussels for eight years. Telling later became President of the Company’s Japan and Korea operations based in Tokyo where he worked for nine years. In 1999, he was transferred to Jamaica as CEO of Carreras. At Carreras, he specialized in managing the company’s tobacco, hospitality and insurance divisions for more than six years before retirement.
Trott, a 2003 Olivet graduate, is arguably one of the best women’s basketball players in school history. A four-time All-MIAA selection, she is the all-time leading scorer in Olivet history with 1,310 points, while also holding the career records for field goals made (495), free throws made (311) and blocked shots (96). She is also second all-time with 847 career rebounds. As a sophomore in 2000-01, Trott was the MIAA’s scoring champion at 17.9 points per game.
Trott resides in Flushing with husband, Ian. They have two daughters, Emory and Quinn. Trott graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and is currently employed as a personal lines underwriting supervisor at Frankenmuth Insurance.
