Baseball ends season with two losses to Alma, 10-3 and 12-3
The Olivet College baseball team ended its season with two losses in a MIAA doubleheader against Alma College on Senior Day at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team ended its season with two losses in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Alma College on Senior Day at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- The Scots scored two runs in both the first and third innings before pushing across six runs in the fourth for a commanding 10-0 lead.
- Olivet plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth and scored its final run in the fifth inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Austin Cleaver reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances – hitting a double and two singles, and walking in his trip to the plate.
- Junior Colton Dawdy recorded two hits, including a double.
- Four others each had a hit.
- Senior Brady Johnson was tagged with the pitching loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in three innings.
- Freshman Brett Tyndall allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits in an inning of relief.
- Senior Cam Hendrickson threw two and one-third innings of hitless relief.
- Junior Travis Petts got the final two outs in the seventh inning.
FOR THE SCOTS
- Alex Peczynski had three hits, with two doubles, and scored three runs.
- Adam Thoryk also scored three times to go along with two hits and two RBI.
- Ben Finzel and Max Trucks collected two RBI apiece.
- Josh Riggs earned the pitching win despite surrendering the three runs on nine hits in six innings.
- Dylan Dzendzel pitched a perfect seventh inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- Alma took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the top half of the first inning.
- Olivet answered with its own two-spot in the bottom half of the first. Cleaver, and freshmen Aaron Gillespie and Alex Parthum all hit a single to load the bases. Junior Aiden Holliday lined a single through the right-side of the infield to score Cleaver and move everyone else up one base. Sophomore Gary Tompkins III hit a sacrifice fly to plate Gillespie.
- After the Scots scored a run in the visitor's part of the third inning, the Comets responded with a run in the home half of the frame. Cleaver reached on an infield single, went to second on a walk to Gillespie and scored on Holliday's RBI-single.
- Alma ended the game by scoring nine unanswered runs – three in both the fifth and seventh innings, one in the eighth and two in the ninth.
FOR THE COMETS
- Cleaver was 4-for-4 at the plate. He also crossed the dish two times.
- Holliday collected two hits and two RBI.
- Freshman Zac Walter suffered the pitching loss after yielding six runs (four earned) on 12 hits in five innings.
- Junior Austin Hickey gave up three runs on one hit in an inning of relief.
- Freshman Huston Snyder allowed one run on three hits in two innings.
- Sophomore Travis Petts finished the game by giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits in an inning.
FOR THE SCOTS
- Greg Goffee was 4-for-6 and scored three runs.
- Peczynski notched three hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
- Matthew Minaudo went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI.
- Thoryk had two hits and two RBI.
- Eric Frontzak improved his season record to 8-4 after allowing three runs on eight hits, while striking out nine in eight and one-third innings.
- Edward Farington and Jordan Masters each recorded an out in relief.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Gillespie finishes the 2017 season with 60 hits, which is tied for second-most in school history for a season. He also tied the school record with 14 doubles. Gillespie's .411 batting average is seventh-best.
- Cleaver ends the year with 53 hits to tie for seventh-most in school history. He broke the single-season record with five triples.
- As a team, Olivet boke the single-season records with 13 triples and 1,257 at-bats. The .359 team slugging percentage and 65 doubles are the best since 2010.
