Cross country: Olivet runs at MSU Spartan Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s cross country teams ran today at the 25th Annual Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational, held at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's cross country teams ran today at the 25th Annual Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational, held at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing. A total of 30 colleges across all levels (NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA) participated in the meet, which featured more than 300 runners in each race.
Running a 6K for the first time this season, the Comet women were paced by junior Jessica D'Haene, as she completed the race in 26:00. Junior Danielle Marsh was not too far behind 27:25, followed by closely by sophomore Jacklyn Yates at 27:29. Freshman Kaitlin Stults was the next Olivet finisher at 27:35.
The men ran an 8K for the first time, and senior Greg Lutzke led them with a time of 26:39. Senior Andrew Benkovsky was next at 27:31. Junior Nicholas Roberge-Ferris crossed the line 27:58, followed by freshman Bruce Baker nine seconds later at 28:07.
The Comets next compete in two weeks, Sept. 27, at the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree. Kalamazoo College is hosting the event at the Eastern Hills Golf Club in Kalamazoo.
