Women’s volleyball team posts 1-1 record at Worthington Classic
The Olivet College volleyball team posted a 1-1 record in two matches this afternoon at the 2018 Worthington Classic at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. The Comets beat the host Bison in four sets before losing a five-set thriller to Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham (N.J.). For her performance, junior Morgan Champion was named to the all-tournament team.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Olivet College volleyball team posted a 1-1 record in two matches this afternoon at the 2018 Worthington Classic at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. The Comets beat the host Bison in four sets before losing a five-set thriller to Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham (N.J.). For her performance, junior Morgan Champion was named to the all-tournament team.

- The Comets had a wire-to-wire lead in the first set.
- Olivet scored the first two points of the second set. The Bison responded by putting four of the next five points on the scoreboard to take a 4-3 lead. Gallaudet did not give up the advantage for the rest of the set.
- The third set started the reverse of the second set, as the Bison led 2-0 before the Comets went on a 4-1 run to go up 4-3. Olivet never relinquished its lead.
- The Comets raced out to a 10-3 lead in the fourth set. Gallaudet answered with a 10-4 run to trim its deficit down to a single point, 14-13. The Bison closed the gap to one point, 17-16, before Olivet went on a 5-0 run to gain control of the set, 22-16.
- Champion slammed down 21 of Olivet's 48 kills.
- Junior Brittney Prince added 13 kills.
- Junior Madelyn Notenbaum dished out 39 set assists.
- Freshman Drue Mullin contributed 18 digs.
- Adele Daniels and Karita Lewis each had 12 kills.
- Emma Giuntoli finished with 42 set assists.
- Farrah Harmount registered a match-high 19 digs.

- The Devils led the first set 11-8 until Olivet went on a 7-1 run to take its own three-point lead, 15-12. The Comets held a three-point cushion two more times at 16-13 and 19-16. FDU-Florham scored three straight points to even the score. Olivet scored the next point and did not trail for the rest of the set.
- The Comets took a 5-0 lead before pushing their advantage to eight points, 14-6. The Devils came back with a 9-1 scoring spurt to even the score. Olivet scored three of the next four points for an 18-16 lead. The teams exchanged points to create five tied scores. After the last one at 22-22, the Comets tallied the final three points of the set.
- In the third set, Olivet held a six-point lead, 20-14. The Devils ended the set on an 11-1 run to win it 25-21.
- Neither team led by more than three points in the fourth set.
- The Comets opened a 4-1 lead in the fifth set. FDU-Florham came back with four consecutive points for a 5-4 lead. Both teams had 2-0 runs, followed by each team trading points to level the score at 11-11. Three straight points for the Devils gave them set point. Olivet scored a point before FDU-Florham kill ended the match.
- Prince finished the match with 27 kills and four errors on 47 attempts for a .489 attack percentage. The 27 kills ties Olivet's single-match record
- Champion had 11 kills to go along with a team-high 19 digs.
- Notenbaum tallied 47 set assists.
- Lauren Harris pounded down 22 kills, followed by Katie Quinlan with 16.
- Kacie Ros had 57 set assists.
- Harris also recorded a match-high 24 digs.
- Olivet resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Tuesday, Oct. 2, when it travels to play Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. First serve from the Angela Athletic Center is 7 p.m.
