Women’s volleyball team drops two matches at Illinois College Tournament
The Olivet College volleyball team suffered a pair of losses today at the Illinois College Tournament in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Comets opened the day with a five-set loss to Principia (Ill.) College and then lost to Grinnell (Iowa) College in four sets.

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Olivet College volleyball team suffered a pair of losses today at the Illinois College Tournament in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Comets opened the day with a five-set loss to Principia (Ill.) College and then lost to Grinnell (Iowa) College in four sets.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Principia def. Olivet 18-25, 28-26, 27-25, 21-25, 15-13

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Statistics for this match were kept by the players for each team. Thus, there is no play-by-play to show the flow of the sets.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Courtney Cronkright led the way with 24 kills.
- Sophomore Morgan Champion was next with 17 kills.
- Sophomore Madelyn Notenbaum had a team-best 40 set assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets held the lead for the majority of the first set. The Pioneers came back to tie the set 10 times all the way from 14-14 to 23-23. Two Grinnell kills ended the set.
- The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead in the third set. Olivet answered with a 5-0 run to go up 5-3. Grinnell fought back to level the score at 10-10. The Comets scored the next point and did not trail for the rest of the set.
- In the third set, Olivet held a pair of five-point leads, 13-8 and 16-11. The Pioneers responded with eight consecutive points for a 19-16 lead. The Comets did not go down without a fight, leveling the score three times, 22-22, 23-23 and 24-24. Olivet led 25-24 before three Grinnell kills resulted in the 27-25 score.
- The only time the Pioneers trailed in the fourth set was 1-0.
FOR THE COMETS
- Cronkright and Champion topped the team with 17 and 15 kills, respectively.
- Notenbaum dished out a team-best 42 set assists.
- Sophomore Gabrielle Mundt recorded 23 digs.
UP NEXT
- Olivet resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Friday, Sept. 22, when it hosts Adrian College at 6:30 p.m.
