FOREST GROVE, Oregon – The Olivet College volleyball team fell to both Williamette University and Pacific University in three sets at the 2017 Oregon Trail Classic.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Willamette (Ore.) def. Olivet 25-13, 25-14, 25-18
Location: Stoller Center; Forest Grove, Oregon
Records: Olivet 0-3 overall, Willamette 1-2 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the Comets scored the first two points before the Bearcats scored seven of the next points to take control of the set. Willamette did not give up the lead for the rest of the set.
- The Bearcats led the second set from start-to-finish.
- In the third set, Olivet held an 8-1 lead and later led 17-12. Willamette used an 8-0 run to go up 20-17. The Comets got one final point on a service error before the Wildcats ended the set on a 5-0 run.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Courtney Cronkright topped Olivet with eight kills to go along with eight digs.
- Sophomore Madelyn Notenbaum had 15 set assists.
- Freshman Mia Parker led the way with nine digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The early stages of the first set was back-and-forth, as neither team led by more than two points. With the scored tied at 18-18, the Boxers went on a 3-0 run to take the largest lead for either team. The Comets scored the next two points to close the gap to one but they were never able to get any closer.
- Pacific held a four-point lead, 11-7, in the second set. Olivet battled back and took a pair of three-point leads 18-15 and 19-16. The Boxers put nine of the final 11 points on the scoreboard to win the set 25-21.
- The Comets never led in the final set.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Brittney Prince paced the front row with 10 kills and .200 attack percentage.
- Cronkright narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.
- Notenbaum dished out 28 set assists.
- Sophomore Gabrielle Mundt led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
UP NEXT
- Olivet starts Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Wednesday night when it travels to play defending NCAA DIII national champion Calvin College. First serve inside Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
