Volleyball team loses in three sets to Saint Mary’s on Senior Night

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost in three sets to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Saint Mary's (Ind.) College on Senior Night at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Belles scored the first three points of the opening set and did not trail for the rest of it.
- After the second set was a 1-1 deadlock, Saint Mary's scored the next point and did not give up the lead for the rest of the set.
- The teams traded the first four points of the third set. After a 2-2 tie, the Belles extended their lead to four points, 13-9. The Comets went on a mini 3-0 run to trim their deficit down to one point, 13-12. Saint Mary's responded with four straight points to gain a 17-12 lead. Olivet fought back by scoring seven of the next 10 points to cut the gap back to one point, 20-19. The Belles had another answer with a 4-0 run to put the set and out match out of reach.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshmen Brittney Prince led all players with 10 kills. She had only error on 25 attempts for a .360 attack percentage.
- Junior Courtney Cronkright was next with seven kills.
- Senior Danielle Bearden dished out 21 set assists.
- Freshman Madelyn Notenbaum had 10 set assists to go along with a team-best 14 digs.
- Cronkright and Bearden also reached double digits in digs with 12 and 10, respectively.
FOR THE BELLES
- Rachel Bonek and Meaghan Gibbons each had nine kills.
- Alexis Grady recorded 30 set assists.
- Gibbons and Kaylin Szucs finished with 16 digs apiece.

- Olivet is on the road Friday night to play Adrian College at 6:30 p.m.
