Volleyball team swept at Hope
The Olivet College volleyball team was swept in three sets, 25-10, 26-24, 25-21, by Hope College tonight on DeYoung Court and inside the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland.

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team was swept in three sets by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Hope College tonight on DeYoung Court and inside the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Flying Dutch scored the first three points of the first set. The Comets fought back to close their deficit down to one point, 6-5. Hope then scored the next four points to go up, 10-5. Olivet was never able to recover, as the Flying Dutch went on to win the set, 25-10.
- The Comets put the first point on the scoreboard in the second set. Olivet then built its lead to four points, 8-4, which forced Hope to call a timeout. The Flying Dutch responded with a 5-1 run to level the set at 9-9. The Comets answered with a 5-0 scoring spurt to gain a 14-9 lead. Olivet maintained its lead until Hope tied the set at 20-20. The Comets scored the next two points before the Flying Dutch scored two straight to level the set at 22-22. The teams exchanged points to cause ties at 23-23 and 24-24. Back-to-back kills ended the set in Hope's favor, 26-24.
- Olivet opened the third set by scoring the first two points. The Comets kept the lead until the Flying Dutch tied the set twice at 7-7 and 8-8. Olivet responded with three consecutive points for an 11-8 advantage. Again, Hope had an answer and evened the score at 12-12, 14-14 and 15-15. The Flying Dutch scored the next two points and never looked back.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the match, Olivet had 30 kills with 20 attack errors on 124 attempts for a .081 hitting percentage.
- Freshman Madelyn Notenbaum slammed down a team-leading 11 kills.
- Freshman Morgan Champion was next with six kills.
- Freshman Brittney Prince had five kills, while hitting at a team-high .235 clip.
- Senior Danielle Bearden led the team with 19 set assists and 13 digs.
- Senior Mona Hinamanu recorded 12 digs.
FOR THE FLYING DUTCH
- Hope had 46 kills against 12 attack errors on 118 attempts for a .288 hitting percentage.
- Sarah Feldpausch finished with 11 kills, and Haley Muller added 10.
- Sophia Hackett contributed 39 set assists.
- Alexis Thompson registered a match-high 19 digs.
BEYOND THE MATCH
- Hope entered the match tied for fifth in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll.
UP NEXT
- The Comets are now idle until next Friday, Oct. 21, when they host Albion College and Grace Bible College for a tri-match inside The Cutler Event Center. Olivet plays Albion in an MIAA match at 5 p.m., followed by a match neutral site match between Albion and Grace Bible, and the night concludes with the Comets playing Grace Bible.
