Volleyball team swept at Saint Mary’s, 3-0

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Olivet College volleyball team was swept by Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in three sets today at the Angela Athletic Facility in Notre Dame, Indiana.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a 1-1 tie in the first set, the Belles scored two straight points to take a 3-1 lead. Saint Mary's never trailed for the rest of the set, including leading it by as many as 14 points, 23-9.
- The Comets led 1-0 and 2-1 in the second set. After the 2-1 score, the Belles scored six consecutive points to go up 7-2. Saint Mary's held the lead for the rest of the set.
- The third set was similar to the first two. The Belles went on a 7-0 run after the score was tied at 2-2. Olivet was never able to recover from the deficit.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshmen Madelyn Notenbaum and Morgan Champion led Olivet's front row with nine and eight kills, respectively.
- Senior Danielle Bearden collected a team-best 20 set assists, while sharing the team-lead with Notenbaum in digs with 12.
FOR THE BELLES
- Meaghan Gibbons topped the Belles with 12 kills, followed by Rachel Bonek with 11 kills.
- Alexis Grady recorded 40 set assists.
- Kaylin Szucs posted a match-high 20 digs.
