Volleyball team defeated by Saint Mary’s in three sets
The Olivet College volleyball team fell to Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College in three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) tonight at the Angela Athletic Facility in Notre Dame, Indiana.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Olivet College volleyball team fell to Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) tonight at the Angela Athletic Facility in Notre Dame, Indiana.
The Belles never trailed in the opening set, with the five-point margin tying for their largest lead of the set. With the score tied at 2-2 in the second set, freshman Andrea Rico stepped to the service line and helped Olivet grab a 5-2 lead.
Saint Mary's fought back to knot the score at 8-8. The Comets scored the next point but that would be their last lead of the set, as the Belles scored three straight points to go up, 11-9.
Olivet led by five points, 13-8, in the third set. The Comets held a 16-14 lead following a kill by senior Marissa Guile. Saint Mary's responded with a 6-0 run to take a 20-16 lead, which it did not give up.
For the match, Olivet totaled 31 kills. Guile topped the team with 12 kills and four blocks. Junior Re'Gene Thompson finished with six kills, while freshman Erie McClendon and sophomore Allison Turner each had four.
Junior Danielle Bearden had 27 set assists. Junior Mona Hinamanu led the back row with 11 digs.
The Comets will close out their 2015 season with a pair of home matches this Friday against Hope College and Saturday against Kalamazoo College. Friday's match starts at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday's match gets under way at 11 a.m.
