Volleyball team loses in three sets at Trine
The Olivet College volleyball team was defeated by Trine (Ind.) University in three sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-19) tonight at Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College volleyball team was defeated by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Trine (Ind.) University in three sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-19) tonight at Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana.
In the first set, the Thunder took a 10-5 lead before the Comets scored four straight points to cut their deficit to one at 10-9. Trine ended the set on a 15-3 run to win it 25-12. The Thunder put the first six points of the second set on the scoreboard and never looked back. Their largest lead was the 12-point margin at the end of the set, 25-13.
In the third set, Olivet led 2-0 until Trine scored four consecutive points to go up 4-2. The Thunder stretched their lead to as many as six points, 22-16. The Comets added the next two points to the scoreboard before Trine scored three of the final five points of the set to win it, 25-19.
Olivet finished the match with only 21 kills compared to 42 for the Thunder. Junior Re'Gene Thompson paced the Comet front row with 10 kills and a .240 hitting percentage. Sophomore Courtney Cronkright and senior Marissa Guile each recorded four kills. Junior Danielle Bearden registered 19 set assists. Junior Dallas James led all players with 14 digs.
Olivet will rest tonight and then hosts Adrian College tomorrow morning. First serve inside The Cutler Event Center is scheduled for noon.
