Volleyball team downed by Albion in three sets
The Olivet College volleyball team lost in three sets to Albion College this morning at Krege Gym in Albion. The Britons won by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-22.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost in three sets to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College this morning at Krege Gym in Albion. The Britons won by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-22.
The Comets led the first set by five points twice, with the last time being 20-15. Albion scored five straight points to tie the set at 20-20. Olivet took the lead back on a service error before the Britons put the next three points on the scoreboard to go ahead 23-21. The Comets came within one point two more times, 23-22 and 24-23 until an Albion kill ended the set.
The Britons scored the first four points of the second set and never looked back. Albion built a six-point, 13-7, advantage in the third set. Olivet chipped away at its deficit and got as close as one point, 23-22. Back-to-back kills by Laura Outwater handed the set and match to the Britons.
Senior Marissa Guile finished with a match-high 11 kills. Junior Re'Gene Thompson and sophomore Allison Turner added six and five kills, respectively. Junior Danielle Bearden contributed 24 set assists. Sophomore Courtney Cronkright tied for match-best honors with 10 digs. Senior Dallas James served two of Olivet's three aces.
The Comets host Alma College next Wednesday, Oct. 14, inside The Cutler Event Center at 6:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear red to the game in support of a "Red Out" for the match.
