A 10-0 run to start the first set for the Thunder was too much for the Comets to overcome. Olivet led the second set by as many as five points on two occasions, with the last time being 12-7.
Trine slowly chipped away at its deficit and tied the set at 19-19. The Thunder scored four straight points to go up 23-19. The Comets answered with their own 4-0 run to knot the set at 23-23. Two Trine kills provided the winning set points.
Olivet went down by six points, 12-6, in the third set before reeling off five consecutive points to trail by one, 12-11. The Thunder scored nine of the next 11 points to go up by eight, 21-13. The Comets battled back to trim their deficit to only three points, 24-21, late in the set.
In defeat, junior Marissa Guile led the Comets with six kills. Senior Emma Brann, sophomore Ashlee Roussey and freshman Allison Turner each recorded five kills. Sophomore Danielle Bearden had a team-high 12 set assists, and senior Taylor Pringle was one behind her with 11 assists. Sophomore Mona Hinamanu and freshman Courtney Cronkright finished with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
