Volleyball: Olivet stung by Hornets in four sets
The Olivet College volleyball team was stung by Kalamazoo College in four sets tonight in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) inside the Anderson Athletic Center in Kalamazoo.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team was stung by Kalamazoo College in four sets tonight in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) inside the Anderson Athletic Center in Kalamazoo.
In the opening set, the Hornets used an ace and two Olivet attack errors to turn a 2-2 tie into a 5-2 lead. They did not give up the lead for the rest of the set, winning it 25-16. The Comets scored three straight points to open the second set and maintained that lead until Kalamazoo tied it at 20-20 and 21-21. Olivet got three kills from three different players and an ace to win the set, 25-21.
The Comets led the third set 6-4 before the Hornets went on a 4-0 run to gain an 8-6 lead. Olivet was never able to recover from that run, losing the set 25-17. Kalamazoo was in control of the fourth set, leading it from start-to-finish, claiming a 25-14 victory to win the match.
Senior Stefanie Lang posted a team-leading 12 kills to reach double figures in kills for the 15th time this season. Junior Marissa Guile and sophomore Gabrielle Trudell netted seven kills apiece, while freshmen Courtney Cronkright and Allison Turner each had six. Turner had only attack error on 12 attempts for a match-best .417 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Danielle Bearden recorded a team-high 21 set assists, while senior Taylor Pringle had 18 assists. Sophomore Mona Hinamanu topped the defense with 21 digs. Junior Dallas James recorded 13 digs.
The Comets host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College tomorrow at noon.
