Volleyball: Comets post 1-1 record on day two of Worthington Classic
The Olivet College volleyball team salvaged a split on day two of the Eighth Annual Worthington Classic, hosted by Gallaudet University. The Comets lost in four sets to DeSales (Pa.) University in their first match before bouncing back to sweep Marymount (Va.) University in three sets.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Olivet College volleyball team salvaged a split on day two of the Eighth Annual Worthington Classic, hosted by Gallaudet University. The Comets lost in four sets to DeSales (Pa.) University in their first match before bouncing back to sweep Marymount (Va.) University in three sets. For her performance, senior Stefanie Lang was named to the all-tournament team.
After DeSales won the first set 25-22, the Comets leveled the match with a 25-19 win in the second set. The Bulldogs won the match with 25-22 and 25-15 wins in the third and fourth set, respectively.
Lang slammed down 24 kills while hitting at a .409 clip to lead Olivet. Junior Marissa Guile finished with nine kills, while sophomore Cassie Brown added seven kills. Senior Taylor Pringle contributed 29 set assists, while sophomore Danielle Bearden had 19. Sophomore Mona Hinamanu recorded 27 digs.
Olivet won three close sets 25-21, 25-23 and 25-21 over Marymount. Lang finished with 14 kills, followed by Guille with 10. Brown and sophomore Gabrielle Trudell each had six kills. Pringle and Bearden dished out 22 and 13 assists, respectively. Hinamanu was one of three players to reach double figures in digs, as she collected a team-leading 20. Freshman Courtney Cronkright finished with 13, while junior Dallas James had 12.
The Comets resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play next Tuesday, Sept. 30, with a 6:30 p.m. match at Calvin College.
NOTES: Lang finished the weekend trip to D.C. with 76 total kills. She now has 258 kills in 16 matches this season. Lang's previous high for a season was 221 in 2012.
