Volleyball team sweeps Albion in three sets for first MIAA win of season
The Olivet College volleyball team swept Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College in three sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-15) today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team swept Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College in three sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-15) today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
After the Britons led 1-0 in the first set, Olivet scored seven straight points to take a commanding 7-1 lead. The Comets led by as many as 10 points twice in the set, with the last time being the final margin 25-15.
Albion led the second set 5-4 before Olivet reeled off three straight points to take a 7-5 lead. The Britons tied the score at 7-7 and 10-10 but the Comets answered with seven of the next 10 points to take a 17-13 lead and never look en route to the 25-18 set two win. Besides a brief 1-0 Albion lead, OIivet led the third set from start-to-finish.
In the win, the Comets posted a season-best .267 attacking percentage, recording 40 kills with only 17 errors on 86 attempts. Sophomore Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) was near perfect at the net, with 11 kills and a match-high .667 attacking percentage. She also had four blocks. Junior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) also collected double digit kills with 10 kills, while freshman Lydia Drikakis (Battle Creek/Lakeview) was right behind her with nine.
Sophomore Taylor Pringle (Haslett) finished one shy of tying her single-match high in assists with 34. In the back row, sophomore libero Megan VanderVlucht (McBain) posted a match-high 12 digs.
The Comets will travel to play Adrian College next Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
