Drikakis leads volleyball team, named to all-tournament at Kalamazoo Invitational
The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches today at the Kalamazoo College Green Hornet Invitational. The Comets fell to Anderson (Ind.) University in four sets, and then lost a tough five-set match to Defiance (Ohio) College.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches today at the Kalamazoo College Green Hornet Invitational. The Comets fell to Anderson (Ind.) University in four sets, and then lost a tough five-set match to Defiance (Ohio) College. For her efforts, freshman Lydia Drikakis (Battle Creek/Lakeview) was named to the all-tournament team.
Olivet won the first set against Anderson, 25-22. The Ravens then won the next three, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-12. Drikakis led the Comets' front row attack with eight kills. Junior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) was next with seven kills on 17 attempts. Junior Tina Westendorp (Nashville/Maple Valley) paced the defense with 11 digs. Lang also recorded three service aces. Sophomore Taylor Pringle (Haslett) had 23 set assists.
The match against Defiance was back-and-forth. The Yellowjackets won the first set, 25-20, before Olivet won the second set, 26-24. Defiance came back to win the third set, 25-22, but the Comets forced a fifth set with 25-22 win in the fourth set. The Yellowjackets won the fifth set, 15-4, to win the match.
Drikakis posted double digits in kills (14) and digs (21) to lead Olivet. Sophomore Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) also reached double figures in kills with 13. Pringle added 35 set assists to bring her weekend total one shy of 100.
Olivet is now off until next Friday, Sept. 7, when it hosts Alma College to open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. First serve at The Cutler Event Center is 6:30 p.m.
