Volleyball team loses twice at Kalamazoo College Hornet Invitational
The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches this afternoon at the Kalamazoo College Hornet Invitational. In their first match, the Comets fell to Centre (Ky.) College in three sets (25-12, 25-18, 26-24), and in their second match, they were defeated by the host Hornets in four sets (25-18, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21). For her efforts this weekend, freshman Melanie Merchant (St. Joseph) was named to the all-tournament team.

The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches this afternoon at the Kalamazoo College Hornet Invitational. In their first match, the Comets fell to Centre (Ky.) College in three sets (25-12, 25-18, 26-24), and in their second match, they were defeated by the host Hornets in four sets (25-18, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21). For her efforts this weekend, freshman Melanie Merchant (St. Joseph) was named to the all-tournament team.
For the day, Merchant had 24 kills, including 17 against Kalamazoo. She also had five service aces. Sophomore Kendra Cavin (Jackson/Hanover-Horton) recorded 17 kills. Defensively, sophomore Mallory Schug (Climax/Galesburg-Augusta) had 20 digs, while senior Kim Travis (Shepherd) had 14. Junior Ellen Schulz (Freeland) topped Olivet with nine blocks. Junior Jenessa Hicks (Union City) and freshman Chelsea Guzikowski (Reed City) finished with 34 and 22 set assists, respectively.
The Comets will now open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Tuesday when they host Adrian College inside The Cutler Event Center. First serve will be at 6:30 p.m.
