Baker wins 10K title at MIAA Field Day, Comets sit in fourth- and fifth-place

ADRIAN, Mich. – Led by senior Bruce Baker's win in the 10,000-meter run, the Olivet College men's track and field team sits in fourth-place with 18 points after day one of the 2018 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day. The Comet women are in fifth-place with 14 points.

FOR THE MEN

• Baker out-ran a field of 20 runners and broke the school record in the 10K with a time of 32:06.51. He is the first Olivet student-athlete to capture the MIAA outdoor track title in a distance race (5K or 10K).
• Noah Bailey and Robert Barnett both advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash. Bailey had the fourth-fastest preliminary time at 50.69 seconds, and Barnett was seventh-quickest at 51.69 seconds.
• Tyler Chavalia ran the 100-meter dash prelims in 11.39 seconds and the 200-meter dash prelims in 22.98 to move on to the finals in both events.
• Chris Womack posted the fastest preliminary time in the 400-meter hurdles at a personal-best time of 55.81 seconds. Teammate Dewan Hawthorne was second in his heat and third overall with a time of 58.55 seconds.
• Jacob Smith was the silver medalist (second-place) in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 47 feet, 3 inches.

FOR THE WOMEN

• Ariel Floyd finished in third-place in the hammer throw with a season-best mark of 140 feet, 10 inches. Teammate Madison Grace was right behind in fourth-place with a personal-best mark of 131 feet, 4 inches.
• Floyd placed sixth in the discus throw with a 119 foot toss.
