Track & field teams open outdoor season at Rhodes Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track & field teams started its 2018 outdoor schedule by competing at the two-day Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Olivet College men's and women's track & field teams started its 2018 outdoor schedule by competing at the two-day Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.
FOR THE WOMEN
- The 4x800-meter relay team of Michaela Kaliniak, Nicole Zerfas, Jessica Taylor and Isabelle Leon broke the school record with a time of 10:18.40.
- Kaliniak finished in fourth-place and set the school record in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10 feet and 6 inches.
- Leon placed 11th of 51 runners in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.04.
- Zerfas broke the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, stopping the clock at 12:27.57.
- Ariel Floyd was ninth of 45 competitors in the discus throw with a mark of 126 feet and 8 inches.
FOR THE MEN
- Bruce Baker finished in 21st-place of 81 runners in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:30.03. He also placed 12th of 93 runners in the mile run with a time of 4:28.83.
- For what is believed to be the first time in school history, the Comets had a quartet of runners compete in the 4x800-meter relay. The team of Noah Bailey, Ethan Barrett, Robert Barnett and Tyler Chavalia had a time of 8:35.62.
- Chavalia placed 21st of 81 competitors in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 22.40 seconds.
UP NEXT
- The Comets are off until Thursday, March 29, when they compete at the Indiana Wesleyan University Easter Twilight Meet. Action starts at 3 p.m.
