Track & field: Records broken for Comets at Hillsdale Tune-Up
Four Olivet College indoor track & field records were broken today at the 2015 Hillsdale College Tune-up today at the Biermann Athletic Center.
HILLSDALE, Mich. – Four Olivet College indoor track & field records were broken today at the 2015 Hillsdale College Tune-up today at the Biermann Athletic Center.
For the women, senior Cassie Ciaravino won the high jump with a 1.60 meters/5 feet, 3 inch clearance to break the school record. Junior Danielle Hoffman and freshman Michaela Kaliniak tied for third-place in the pole vault. Both needed cleared the bar at 2.92 meters/9 feet, 7 inches to set the school record. In the mile run, freshman Allyson Schultz crossed the line in fifth-place with a school-record time of 5:34.86.
Ciaravino finished in fourth-place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.12 seconds. Freshman Rachael Durocher was not far behind in fifth-place with a time of 10.25 seconds.
Senior Greg Lutzke was the first runner to finish the 3,000-meter run, and his time was 8:55.31 to break the school record. For a second straight week, the Comets had three runners place in the top five of the 800-meter run. Senior Jalen Weaver was second in 1:55.19, followed by sophomore Connor Bauserman in third (1:56.98) and senior Andrew Benkovsky in fifth (1:58.92).
Freshman Drew Miller was third in the shot put with a toss of 12.83 meters/42 feet, 1-1/4 inches. Junior Travon Tatum placed fifth in the long jump with a 6.08 meters/19 feet, 11-1/2 inch leap.
Olivet will compete in its final indoor meet of the season next Saturday, Feb. 28, at Trine (Ind.) University.
