Track & field: Nine student-athletes participate in Hillsdale “Wide-Track” Classic
Nine Olivet College track & field student-athletes participated in the 2015 Hillsdale College “Wide-Track” Classic Feb. 6-7 at the Margot V. Biermann Center in Hillsdale.
HILLSDALE, Mich. – Nine Olivet College track & field student-athletes participated in the 2015 Hillsdale College "Wide-Track" Classic Feb. 6-7 at the Margot V. Biermann Center in Hillsdale.
Highlighting the meet for the Comet women was sophomore Allyson Schultz, who shattered the school record in the 3,000-meter run. She finished the race in 11:10.28 which is more than 19 seconds faster than the previous record (11:29.43). Overall, Schultz placed eighth of 23 runners in the event.
Senior Cassie Ciaravino competed in the pentathlon, scoring 2,681 total points over the five events. Her best event in the pentathlon was the 60-meter hurdles, stopping the clock at 9.62 seconds which was good enough for 785 points.
For the men, senior Greg Lutzke was fifth of 31 runners in the 3,000-meter run. He crossed the line in 9:02.61. Senior Jalen Weaver finished in seventh-place of 28 athletes in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.73.
The other Olivet student-athletes competing at the meet freshman Bruce Baker, senior Andrew Benkovsky and junior Travon Tatum from the men's team, and freshmen Rachael Durocher and Michaela Kaliniak for the men's team.
Olivet makes the trip to Ohio next Friday, Feb. 13, for the Defiance College Invitational. Action gets under way at 4 p.m.
