Women’s tennis team wins season-opener at Defiance, 6-3
The Olivet College women’s tennis team swept the three doubles matches and split the six singles matches to defeat Defiance (Ohio) College, 6-3, in its season-opener at the Dix Tennis Facility in Defiance, Ohio.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis team swept the three doubles matches and split the six singles matches to defeat Defiance (Ohio) College, 6-3, in its season-opener at the Dix Tennis Facility in Defiance, Ohio.

Records: Olivet 1-0 overall, Defiance 0-1 overall
- The Comets won each of three doubles pro-sets.
- The wins for Olivet in singles play were at the No. 2, 5 and 6 positions.
- At No. 1 doubles, freshman Makenzie Borg and senior Miranda Pier rallied from a 6-3 deficit to win 9-7.
- At No. 2 doubles, senior Sydnie Weller and sophomore Emily Foulk coasted to an 8-2 win.
- At No. 3 doubles, freshman Anneliese Jones and sophomore Julia Miklusicak won 8-3.
- Junior Keely Cruz came-from-behind for the win at No. 2 singles. After losing the first set, 6-3, she won second set 6-2 and won a match-tiebreaker 11-9 for the third set.
- Weller did not lose any games for a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
- At No. 6 singles, senior Alex Lesko also won in straight sets and straight games, 6-0, 6-0.
- Olivet returns to the courts next Saturday, Sept. 7, when it hosts Manchester (Ind.) University. First serve at the Marshall High School Tennis Courts is at 11 a.m.
