Swimming teams place fifth and sixth at 2023 MIAA Championships
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming teams placed fifth and sixth at the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. The Comet men scored 254 points, while the Olivet women had 286 points. The top swim from today’s events was junior Jennifer Mann winning the league title in the 200-yard breaststroke.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming teams placed fifth and sixth at the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. The Comet men scored 254 points, while the Olivet women had 286 points. The top swim from today's events was junior Jennifer Mann winning the league title in the 200-yard breaststroke.
- Mann captured the title in 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.58). In the prelims, she lowered her own school record to 2:19.99. Mann is the first female in school history to win five career individual events at the MIAA Championships. Her other event titles were the 1,650 free in 2021 and 2022, 500 free in 2022 and 400 IM in 2023.
- Freshman Sarah Steffens placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.67). Her prelim time, 2:13.63, was a personal best and third-fastest in school history for the event.
- Freshman Kelsee Lawson was 15th in the 1,650-yard freestyle, stopping the clock at personal best time of 20:13.34.
- Sophomore Mya Kinnunen finished 15th in the 200-yard backstroke with a personal-best time of 2:24.78.
- Senior Sarah LaFoe scored a 16th-place point in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:13.81).
- The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Mann, Lawson, Steffens and freshman Bridgette Shroll placed sixth with a time of 3:47.90. Mann led the relay off with a 53.77 second split, which ranks fourth all-time at Olivet.
- Swimming personal-best times in the morning preliminaries were:
- Freshman Makaila Dodd in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.08)
- Sophomore Jordan Kruskie in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.99)
- Senior Chelsea Perry in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.58)
- Shroll in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.58)
- Senior Karley Wheeler in the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.79)
- Senior Takato Timmerman made the "A" final to place eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.90).
- Junior Dylan Lyons was 12th in the 200-yard backstroke with a personal-best time of 2:00.93.
- Senior Carter Moore took 14th in the 100-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 48.01 seconds.
- sophomore Landon Morgan finished 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.15). His prelim time, 2:11.87, was a personal best.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Seth Kading, Timmerman, Morgan and Moore capped the meet with a fifth-place time of 3:10.94, which is eighth-fastest in school history.
- Other personal-best times in the morning preliminaries were:
- Sophomore Treyton Gabrielson in the 100-yard freestyle (50.64)
- Sophomore Declan Nowakowski in the 100-yard freestyle (54.33)
- Freshman Jack Pendell in the 100-yard freestyle (59.11)
