Montes de Oca qualifies for NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships
Olivet College freshman Ana Paula Montes de Oca will compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. The championships will be held March 21-24 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Olivet College freshman Ana Paula Montes de Oca will compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. The championships will be held March 21-24 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Montes de Oca earned the trip after swimming a provisional qualifying time of 17:17.24 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Since she made the cut, she will also be allowed to compete in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly. Montes de Oca holds the school record in all three events.
"I couldn't be more excited for Ana Paula, and for Olivet swimming," said Olivet head coach Rob Brownell. "She is such a talented and strong swimmer, and the whole team is excited for her. Ana Paula continues to impress us, and making it to the championships is a great cap to a record-breaking season for her. Lastly, it means a lot to our program to see this type of success. Montes de Oca is only the fourth women's swimmer in school history to compete at the NCAA Championships. The other three were Jill Lingbeek in 2005 and 2006, Amy Johnson in 2009 and Caitlin Lohr in 2011.
