Swimming & diving teams complete third day of competition MIAA Championships

The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams are in fourth- and fifth-place after day three of the 2018 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, taking place at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids. Entering tomorrow’s final day of competition, the Comet men have 172points, while the women have 152 points.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams are in fourth- and fifth-place after day three of the 2018 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, taking place at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids. Entering tomorrow's final day of competition, the Comet men have 172points, while the women have 152 points.

FOR THE MEN

Olivet had three swimmers place in the 400-yard individual medley. Zach Meharg, Bryan Plesner and Patrick Gault finished 11th, 12th and 13th with times of 4:26.95, 4:39.83 and 4:57.65, respectively.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Gabe Collins was 11th with a time of 56.68 seconds, while Kolton Epplett was 15th in 58.49 seconds. Tom Decker did not make to the finals but posted a career-best time of 1:01.55 in the preliminaries.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Eric Wood placed eighth with a personal-best time of 1:44.70. The time was also the seventh-best in school history.
Tony Farmer posted a season-best time of 1:05.29 in the 100-yard breaststroke to finish in 12th-place. Gault had a season-best time of 1:09.20 to finish 15th.
Bishop, Farmer, Collins and Wood touched the wall in fifth-place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.31.

FOR THE WOMEN

In the 400-yard individual medley, Keanalanimeleo'kekai Kunz placed 13th with a season-best time of 5:35.07 and Samantha Butler was 14th with a career-best time of 5:57.72.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Samantha Butler and Katie Hansel finished in 15th and 16th, respectively. In the prelims, they had season-best times of 1:05.88 and 1:09.19.
Sabrina Butler narrowly missed making the evening finals with a career-best time of 1:08.62 in the 100-yard butterfly.
Delaney Graham had a personal-best time of 2:07.20 in the prelims of the 200-yard freestyle.
Samantha Butler, Ana Paula Montes de Oca, Sabrina Butler and Hansel placed sixth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:57.97.
Abbie Slater placed 10th in the one-meter diving with a lifetime-best point total of 283.55.

UP NEXT

The final day of the championships gets started tomorrow morning with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals in the same events at 5:30 p.m. Events include the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay and men's 1-meter diving.
