Olivet College’s Lupu named to CoSIDA Academic All-America® team
Recent Olivet College graduate Leah Lupu has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division III Women’s At-Large third-team.
AUSTIN, Texas – Recent Olivet College graduate Leah Lupu has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division III Women's At-Large third-team.
A member of the swimming and diving team, Lupu participated in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly at the 2016 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. As a captain of the team, she swam career-best times of :27.90 in the 50 free, 1:00.84 in the 100 free and 1:10.54 in the 100 fly.
Lupu graduated magna cum laude with a 3.9897 grade point average in a double major of insurance & risk management, and financial planning. Her only grade lower than an A during her four years at Olivet was an A- in the recently completed spring semester.
A President's Leadership Institute fellow, Lupu was a member of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Gamma Iota Sigma, Hosford Society of Scholars and served as a secretary for the Society of Financial Service Professionals. A four-time selection to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, she served as volunteer at community service projects in Olivet and St. Joseph County. Lupu has begun her professional career in South Bend, Indiana, as a commercial insurance agent for Gibson Insurance Group.
Lupu is the second Olivet student-athlete to earn All-America® honors this year, and overall the 27th Academic All-America® award in Olivet history. In addition, she is the fourth swimmer in school history to earn the honor. The other three are Dustin Meisner (third-team in 2006, first-team in 2007 and 2008), Kellen Beckwith (first-team in 2010 and 2011) and Mike Harden (second-team in 2011 and first-team in 2012).
The CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 D-III Academic All-America® teams program. The at-large program includes the sports of beach volleyball, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
