Swimming & diving: Comets beat Manchester, women lose to Hillsdale
The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted Hillsdale and Manchester for non-conference dual meets this afternoon at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet. The Olivet men defeated Manchester, 107-12; while the women beat Manchester, 111-39, but fell to Hillsdale, 95-70.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted Hillsdale College and Manchester (Ind.) University for non-conference dual meets this afternoon at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet. The Olivet men defeated Manchester, 107-12; while the women beat Manchester, 111-39, but fell to Hillsdale, 95-70.
Swimming in her final home meet, senior Jazmin Johnson won the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.82). She also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (:25.16) and 100-yard individual medley (1:04.95). Junior Megan Dossey touched the wall second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:56.35).
Sophomore Derek Beslock, junior Taylor Howard and junior Trey Jennings each scored first-place points in two individual events and both relays. Beslock won the 50-yard freestyle (:23.71) and 100-yard freestyle (:51.79). Howard took first-place in the 50-yard breaststroke (:29.20) and 100-yard backstroke (:59.56). Jennings finished first in the 50-yard backstroke (:27.43) and 100-yard individual medley (:58.78).
The aforementioned three male swimmers were joined by freshman James Silvers on the winning relays. The 200-yard medley relay had a time of 1:42.71, while the 200-yard freestyle relay stopped the clock at 1:36.79. Silvers claimed the top spot in the 50-yard butterfly (:26.45). Sophomore Bryce Prudden won the 1-meter diving.
Beslock also swam the 200- and 500-yard freestyle in exhibition. He completed the 200 in a season-best time of 1:55.97 and the 500 in 5:32.19.
Olivet is now off until Friday, Jan. 30, when it travels to Albion College for its final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet of the season, starting at 5 p.m.
